Connect ChatGPT to your vault

Let ChatGPT read and update your bills, paychecks, savings and debts as you — with your explicit approval each time.

What this does

Paycheck Vault exposes a secure MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at /mcp. ChatGPT can connect to it the same way it connects to other MCP servers, then call your vault's tools while you are signed in.

Get your MCP endpoint URL

After you publish the app, your endpoint will be your public URL with /mcp appended. Copy it from here once the page is live.

Publish your app first so ChatGPT can reach the endpoint from the public internet.

Add it to ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, go to your settings and add a custom MCP / actions connector. Paste the endpoint URL above and confirm.

  1. •Open ChatGPT Settings → "Beta features" or "Connectors" (the exact name may vary by plan).
  2. •Choose "Add connector" or "Add MCP server".
  3. •Paste the MCP URL you copied above.
  4. •Save. ChatGPT will fetch the tool list and discover the OAuth server automatically.

Sign in and approve

When ChatGPT first tries to use a tool, it will ask you to sign in to Paycheck Vault. You will land on a consent screen that shows exactly what ChatGPT is requesting.

The OAuth flow runs through Paycheck Vault itself, so the token is tied to your account.

ChatGPT receives no plain-text password and cannot bypass your row-level security.

You can sign out or revoke access from your Paycheck Vault account at any time.

What the consent screen looks like

"Connect [ChatGPT] to Paycheck Vault — [Client] will be able to read and update your bills, paychecks, savings and debts as you."

Tap Allow to finish, or Deny to cancel.

Troubleshooting

If the connection fails, work through these common issues in order.

ChatGPT says the URL is unreachable

  1. Confirm you are using the public origin, not the preview URL.
  2. Visit /mcp in a signed-in browser; it should return JSON, not a 404.
  3. Make sure the app is published and the MCP route is exposed.

Consent approval fails with an expired error

  1. Authorization requests expire after a few minutes. Return to ChatGPT and start the connection again.
  2. Do not refresh the consent page while it is loading.

After signing in, you land on the home page instead of the consent screen

  1. Sign out of Paycheck Vault.
  2. Go back to ChatGPT and re-initiate the connection.
  3. Sign in again and wait for the consent screen to appear before navigating away.

Tools return “Unauthorized” inside ChatGPT

  1. Your Paycheck Vault session may have expired. Open the app in the same browser and sign in again.
  2. Revoke the connection in ChatGPT and reconnect.
